Bye
A grey double-breasted coat, Borsalino in hand, a veil of pomade in his hair, his gaze low. Under a sky sinking in the pink of an endless sunset, a boy from the 1950s returns from the past, stops on the landing of the family home and waits for his son, now an adult. How is this possible? And why has he returned now, after so long? They are two strangers, but they are father and son. Together for the first time and for one evening only, they try to tell each other their lives, what has been and what could have been, the story of two generations that are close and yet very different. The words of childhood, landscapes, faces transformed by time; and Rome, the most beautiful one. That of the radio, and of the television that that shy and brilliant boy helped to found. But what is the legacy of a father who was never there? Perhaps melancholy, certain sudden sadness, the desire to joke and tease, the moved memory of the woman who loved them. In a journey through the pain of loss and the wonder of searching for their roots, the words mix and intertwine until they reveal what really unites them. Because we never stop searching for the father.
