The Dimensions of the Void
‘We have built a world that looks like us, where to grow you have to harden yourself.’ The suicide rate among adolescents is on the rise in many countries of the Western world and is one of the leading causes of death among young people. Paolo Crepet investigates, describes and analyses a phenomenon that modern social culture tends to remove, perhaps because it is the victim of taboos that do not yet allow it to come into focus. Starting from the concept of death in early adolescence, Crepet comes to question the influence that the media can have on young people's loss of the meaning of life, and thus delivers us a small but indispensable book, an invitation to stop and look around and ask ourselves if everything is really all right. Hidden within this gesture of awareness is an invitation to listen to others and ourselves: perhaps the only real way to stop the darkest thoughts before they take shape, a gesture of genuine humanity that we should never abandon.
