Ti mangio il cuore

For some time now, there has been more than just the Sicilian Mafia, the Camorra and the 'ndrangheta in Italy. There is a fourth mafia, which today is the least told and least known. Yet it is powerful and the most ferocious. In the lands stretching from the Gargano to San Severo, from Manfredonia to Cerignola, the families of the Foggia Society and the Montanari of the Promontorio rule. Their tentacles have now extended into a huge international business. Their violence is archaic and bestial. Their men sign their murders by shooting them in the face, because to disfigure features is to erase memory as well. There are those who licked the blood of the victims and those who made the corpses disappear by feeding them to the pigs. One is born, grows and dies in the cult of revenge. Blood calls for blood.
Since the 1970s there have been 360 murders, 80 percent of which remain unsolved. Between 2017 and 2018 in the province of Foggia alone there was an average of one murder a week, one robbery a day, one extortion every forty-eight hours. A slaughter that has claimed dozens of lives and has its inexhaustible engine in the bloody decades-long feud between two families: the Romitos and the Li Bergolis.
Carlo Bonini and Giuliano Foschini's is an investigation that, by interweaving unpublished court documents, testimonies of investigators, magistrates and victims of this hell, becomes a dramatic tale, populated by indelible characters, and unmasks a civil catastrophe ignored for too long, to which the state has now declared war.

A tale from the unexplored abyss of the Foggia Society, Italy's fourth mafia.
No one speaks, no one sees, no one remembers. Because power is won with blood.
