A long New Year's Eve in noir
Ten great Italian writers, each with their own voice and narrative music, tell a noir story.
Between a toast and an exchange of greetings, we meet some of the most beloved characters of Italian noir, such as Inspector Ferraro, Detective Elia Contini, Commissioner De Vincenzi and Colonel Bruno Arcieri. And we travel through Italy: from the corrupt and violent Rome of the 1970s to the blood-soaked Rome of today; from the Florence of 1944, the scene of a double love story put to the test by the war, to the Tuscan countryside with the present-day story of two little brothers on the trail of a man in the woods: where will he be going? And then Milan, with its neighborhoods and its people; Milan, which in the 1920s housed Antonio Gramsci in San Vittore, a man who really hated New Year's Eve. And again a village in central Italy, seemingly peaceful, hiding a bloody reality. Outside the country's borders, a husband and wife take a trip to Barcelona that will have an unforeseen outcome; while in Switzerland, a country always on the cutting edge, it seems that even artificial intelligence can kill. It's the time of year when we promise to leave the past behind by relying on good intentions, at least that's what they say. But the protagonists in this book don't want to give up old habits at all, and the countdown will probably surprise them at the scene. Such are the hazards of the job, when you're a killer or a cop on duty on New Year's Eve....
