Italians
Beppe Severgnini believed there was a new way to travel, to do journalism, to engage readers. And he came up with "Italians." The forum has been followed on five continents for ten years. Italians write, tell, comment, explain the world they see. Beppe over the years has visited them, met them, had pizza with them. And he tells how it went. The result is a fresco of Italians living abroad, their ideas and habits, their work and discoveries; and, together, a bittersweet portrait of Italy as seen from afar. A different kind of travel book: fresh, ironic, modern, punctuated by eighty "pizza italians" in the most diverse places on the planet. To Kabul and Beirut, where they encountered some local difficulties; to Los Angeles and San Francisco, where they coincided with a presidential election; to Athens and Beijing, when they got in the wake of an Olympics. All over Europe-from London to Lisbon, Munich to Moscow-where Italians study, teach, work, live, fall in love. If it is true that the Internet is changing the way we communicate and do information, "Italians" is now more than a forum. It has become a new word: it indicates our most recent and exuberant emigration. Italians write, tell, explain, question, discuss, protest (a lot). But, above all, they compare.
